4 Months To Go

The 2021 Football Writers' Festival is just four months away with plans shaping-up for a Festival that is bigger and better than ever.

Now in its third year, the Festival which is for football readers, writers, thinkers and dreamers will be held at Jamberoo, NSW, around 90km south of Sydney.

With a theme of 'Our Football, Our Culture', the program is designed to explore the topic of football culture in all its facets: from history to the future, and how we use football culture for passion and purpose.

The 2021 Festival will include one-on-one conversations with Professor John Maynard; former Socceroo and author of the recently released Riding Shotgun - the Autobiography of the Original Wizard of Oz, Andy Bernal; and longstanding advocate for athletes' rights in Australia and globally, Brendan Schwab, now the Executive Director of the World Players' Association.

Authors to be featured from 2021 books include Jason Goldsmith and Lucas Gillard, Texi Smith, Dr Hunter Fujak, Dr Greg Downes and Vicky Krayem.

The Festival will include four social elements:

  • The Opening Night of the 'Portraits in Football' Exhibition at the Jamberoo School of Arts on Friday 1st October;

  • The Legends Happy Hour with players from the Socceroos and Matildas on Saturday 2nd October;

  • Hard Quiz with the Ladies League; and

  • Pre-Breakfast 6-a-side on Sunday 3rd October.

Tickets to the Festival are $15 for the two days, while the Exhibition is $35 including canapés and a complimentary drink on arrival. Due to Covid related requirements, attendees must purchase tickets to both events beforehand; there are no door sales.

The Festival has also established a 'Festival Friends Membership' for $75 which entails complimentary entry to #FWF21, one book from the Fair Play Publishing range and a #FWF21 t-shirt.

#FWF21 is being held over the October Long Weekend for many parts of Australia and those intending to attend are urged to book accommodation early. Discounted rates may be available via WotIf from this link.
