PLANNING YOUR VISIT

The Walsh Bay area is immediately to the west of the southern end of the Sydney Harbour Bridge. The distinctive timber wharf of Pier 2 was constructed in the 1920s and was granted heritage status in 1999.

There are three venues for the 2023 Football Writers Festival.

  • The main venue is  View by Sydney, Pier 2, 13 Hickson Road, Walsh Bay/Tar-Ra.

  • On Saturday evening (15th July), we are also using the Wharf 2 Theatre of the Sydney Theatre Company, Pier 3/4, 15 Hickson Road.

  • On Sunday and Monday mornings (16th and 17th July), the Book Club sessions will be held in the main venue as well as the Australian Theatre for Young People, the next door up on Pier 2, 13 Hickson Road. We are using the rooms called The Lab (Ground Floor) and The Popsy (Level 1).

Walsh Bay is easily accessible by car (with on-street and car parking stations near by), bus, train, and a pleasant winter walk.

  • By car:  There is generally parking in the street (metred), as well as three parking stations at:

    • 26 Hickson Road

    • 25B Hickson Road

    • 5 Towns Place.

  • By bus: From Wynyard, go to Kent Street Stand V, and hop on the #324 or #325 bus. It stops virtually outside 13 Hickson Road. You can also get the #311 bus which stops at Lower Fort Street and walk approximately 450 metres to the venue.

  • By train: Get a train to Wynyard Station and follow instructions by bus.

  • By ferry: From Circular Quay, it is about a 1km walk, or catch a bus on George Street. From Barangaroo Wharf, it is about a 1.5km walk, or check out the bus also.

Sydney public transport information is available at TransportNSW.info.
